Running on a trail My answer changes based on the season, temperature and what I’m in the mood for. Lets take a look at some of the pros and cons.

Treadmill at the gym
PROS
Consistent temperature
Near weights – so I can lift, too
Near other cardio machines – if I want to switch gears
TVs

CONS
You don’t really go anywhere
I find it harder to run on one than outside
Crowded gyms are possible
People talking nearby

Nature’s treadmill
PROS
Fresh air
Sightseeing while running
You are moving forward
Experience the community in a different way than driving through it

CONS
Cars – Crossing streets can be a challenge
Stop lights can cause unneeded breaks
Iowa temperatures in the winter. Brrr
Running in unfamiliar places can be a challenge
Where am I?

There are pros and cons to running on a gym’s treadmill or outside. I do both depending on the situation and sometimes I run to the gym to lift and then back home.
