Some stories are worth watching over and over – for the experience

My two girls are huge Disney fans so I try to take them to Disney events – including when Disney Live stopped in Cedar Rapids in 2015.

They performed three fairy tales:

  • Cinderella
  • Snow White
  • Beauty and the Beast

And while at this point I could recite them myself, the girls still like the experience and watch almost like it’s a new story.

As I said, there’s some importance around creating new stories. But some stories can be consumed over and over and over. And in the case of Disney you can add a few more overs.

Of course, that’s not the case for most stories that are being created out there today. Many stories are forgettable. Some can’t even be consumed once. Some are marketing messages pretending to be authentic stories. 

When you stumble into a great story that people actually want to consume over and over and pay for, make sure to learn from it. Try to apply what worked with that story with the next one you create. 

Of course, I wouldn’t recommend making stories up. We are creating authentic and relevant stories here and not fairy tales. But great stories happen around us all the time. Some are worth consuming. Fewer are worth consuming over and over. 

When you have a winner make sure you share it over and over on many channels. Oh, and of course sell popcorn and related merchandise. 🙂
