MQL stands for marketing qualified lead.

In a Content Performance Culture marketing teams  certainly have goals to send leads to the sales team, in addition to building the brand. Those leads need to meet certain criteria including:

  • members of the target industry.
  • currently researching solutions to problems that the company can solve.
  • potential decision maker or influencer

Certainly some of those qualifications need to be determined by the sales team but a marketing qualified lead has shown a high interest in the knowledge base or products of the company by its actions on the website, in email marketing and maybe even on social media.
