When I lost a lot of weight I did it half a pound at a time.

“Yes, I’m down half a pound (or pound),” I’d exclaim while weighing myself.

It seems silly to celebrate half a pound, but they add up. Four half pounds are two full pounds. You are welcome for the math lesson. 🙂 Seriously, it adds up.

It also works the other way. I once gained 50 pounds and didn’t even know it (consciously). It took like six months, too.

The same is true for adding weights to lifts and adding time to cardio exercises.

Let’s say you bench press 155 pounds. Adding 5 pounds just once a month will get you to benching 215 in a year.

Adding five months per month sounds doable. Adding 60 pounds sounds hard, so we have to get there one pound at a time.

To keep track of incremental changes make sure to keep track either on paper or with a fitness app.

That way you can go back and take a historical look and when the trend is going the wrong way you can make adjustments.
