There certainly are enough live streaming apps out there with Periscope, Meerkat, Blab and now MeVee, which launched in early January 2016 right in time for the CES conference. And there are other live-streaming services as well that have been around for years. I was made aware of the MeVee launch by a Tweet from social media buddy Brian Fanzo and wanted to give it spin.

I started a broadcast on Periscope, which as you know I love. And then started my MeVee broadcast from another device. Both apps push to Twitter (since that’s how I signed up). You can see that  both tweets are basically on top of each other. The MeVee Tweet is more eye catching with the red on-air button. Well done!

mevee appOn Periscope, which I have used for a while, I had 9 viewers. On MeVee, I had almost 80. Quite a difference. I asked the MeVee team where they all came from and their response was:

  • Your tweet
  • Live viewers on the website. See MeVee shows the latest live streams on their website – which is different from Periscope, which doesn’t do that.

(Editorial note to MeVee: Let’s add an apostrophe in the “Im live now…” auto tweet.)

Sharing is also easier from MeVee. On Periscope, your viewers do the sharing for you, which is very community-minded, of course. As the broadcaster, you can’t even share to Facebook yourself. On MeVee, With the push of a button, you can yourself share to Facebook, Twitter, by email and even via Skype. Also, a future version of the app reportedly will allow you to invite on-screen guests.

Some content marketing experts have called 2016 the year of video and/or live streaming. And so it continues.

It will be interesting to see which apps and services are going to be around in 12 months.
