Search engines use the amount of authoritative pages that link to you as a measurement of influence. The number of incoming links can impact your site’s ranking in Google search results.

These are a number of link building strategies that you can implement:

  • Guest blogging
  • Inviting others to guess blog on your site
  • Sharing relevant content and being nominated to top 10 or top 25 lists
  • Publishing your own list of other influencers – people listed often link back
  • Social media outreach to alert others of your content

There are probably other techniques that are OK to use but here’s just a sampling of what you might consider doing. I would not recommend exchanging links with sites that have nothing to do with your area of expertise or niche.

Another strategy that takes a little longer, includes to just continuously sharing valuable content. At some point others will start linking to you. Usually that takes a while until people find your site through a Google search for example.

The best strategy is probably a mix of the ones listed above.
